Baloney Man, Movie Review, Book Review

It is amazing what constitutes news now a days. Okay I go with the removal of bin Laden from the world scene as real news; however, where the National Football League football players work out is not news. The only reason it is mentioned in the newspapers is because they are going through a lock out from their prospective team facilities because there is an disagreement between the players and owners about a tidy sum of $9 Billion that the owners would like to have.

Of course it is more complicated than that, but that is the issue. The ole saying that the inmates can’t run the prison applies here. While the owners happen to be a bunch of real rich guys(no girls in this exclusive club) the league belongs to them, not the players.

The players are hired hands and hired hands never own the joint. The other day there was an article in the paper about Tony “Baloney” Roma leading volunteer work outs with fellow team members. All I got to say it is about time the Baloney man took charge. He is paid multi-millions to play a game as the leader of the team. Maybe this lock out will teach him something about leadership and winning the big one, since he hasn’t done that yet. In the mean time the billionaires will win and the season will begin on time. The inmates better be working out!

Movie Review: “Thor”, ***, This is a good sci-fi movie and Chris Hemsworth does a great job as the very sure of himself new god of thunder. This is kind of a family story, of sorts, about a planet far away from Earth. Of all things he is banished by his father for being too head strong and wanting to start a war with their arch rivals, the evil Frost Giants. Thor is really doomed if he doesn’t retrieve his magic hammer and rule out the bad guys. Be sure and watch the whole thing including the credits, many visions for the future of Captain America and the Avengers.

Book Review: “Fail Up”, Tavis Smiley, ****, About half through this very good book. Some great points are made about success motivated by failure. While I have always tried to avoid the “F” word of failure this books gives some really good positive insights to the approach of succeeding after failing. While I haven’t completed it yet I see where it is going and would recommend it for sure.
