Causes, Movie Reviews
Within the past 5 years I have made the statement, more than once, that what we need is just one more cause event on this planet. It seems as though there is a cause for everything, such as “the ingrown toenail charity run” or the “the baldness 5K crawl, scoot” or the “the over 300# women’s only roll” or “the beer potbelly rumble crawl” or “the enchilada burp off” or the “spit further than you” or “the grab my speedo swim benefit for drowning rats!” So, I hope I made my point that there are way too many charity, benefit, causes and it is hurting the recreational business people. With these thoughts now in mind you can imagine what I felt when I go into my printer to do some business with him and of all things he grabs me and tells me about the new 5K cause run his church is going to put on at the end of the year. When he said it was a fund raiser I mentioned to him that there is not much money in putting on races unless you have a lot of “cash” sponsorship. He assured me that they did and the whole town is volunteering to help with it. While I wish them the best of luck I hope they sell lots of entry’s, get lots of donations and create lots of funds for the church they are benefitting. Of course if push comes to shove they can always rob the Sunday offering to offset the cost of the t-shirts and then make their motto, “praise the Lord!” I can’t wait till the Friday paper comes tomorrow so I can see what the latest “cause” is!!
Movie Reviews:
“Fifty Shades of Grey”, ****, Well this movie is the talk of most towns and a top seller. It is not safe to say it is a love story, but it is a very sexually graphic story involving bondage. The movie follows the book right to the letter and makes its’ points very professionally. I suggest that before anyone goes to see it they read the first book and/or be sure to read the complete description found on the internet. Rated R for strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.
“Kingsman: The Secret Service”, **, This is a well done movie but really a very boring James Bond type movie with a sci-fi under tone. But, it becomes very boring after a while and hard to sit through. Same ole story, twisted tech genius tries to take over the world and the Majesty’s Secret Service comes to the rescue. Somewhat boring but may be entertaining to some. Rated R for sequences of strong violence, language and some sexual content.
“Black or White”, ***. Yes Kevin Costner plays a grandfather of a young female bi-racial grand daughter. Lots of good drama between grandpa and the maternal grand mother. The story revolves around the grand parents raising this child after her mother dies and then to add insult to injury the grand mother dies. So, it has great family drama and emotional drama on who should raise the grand daughter. One family is black and the other is white, so the name of the movie is appropriate. Rated PG-13 on appeal for brief strong language, thematic material involving drug use and drinking, and for a fight.
“The Hobbitt: The Battle of the Five Armies”, ****, While I am not a Hobbitt fan this is really a well done movie. Bottom line it is about the dwarfs wanting to win their homeland back. So lots of war and talking dragons. For those whose follow this story will certainly enjoy this. Rated PG-13 for extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, and frightening images.
“Old Fashioned”, ****, This is a low budget, you never heard of the actors, boy meets girl with lots of story in-between. A reformed ex-frat boy(now man with mental scars) and a now just released from marriage bondage, through divorce, free spirited woman meet. Their courtship turns into a real “old fashioned” courtship in contemporary America(try rural Ohio)! It is a feel good movie and after putting the audience through some “wonder why he said that or did that” scenes. Rated PG-13 for some thematic material(compared to other movies of the day this one is squeaky clean!)
EA, SH......:)!
