Computer BS, movie reviews

A few days ago I wrote an article for this blog site that decided to go into cyber space as I was trying to post it. Since I didn’t get it saved properly all of my hard earned creative work was like, pooof!! gone with the wind. In the early days of using my old Royal manual typewriter nothing like this could possible happen. I had complete control of that baby and it only responded when I hit the keys. Then when the electric came out it was easy to manipulate to; however, I was dependent on the making sure the electric bill was paid so I would have power to make it work. Speed wasn’t a big deal since I had typed over 80 words per minute on the manual and about the same on the electric. It almost became a competitive game to me to see just how fast I could type. Now I apply this same speed to the computer and it seems to get pissed off because I am really a typer, not a hunt and pecker. So, my distaste for the computer and the computer world continues on and in the end we have a stand off, it can send my creative writing into cyber space when it wants to or I can simply hit the button that turns the friggin thing OFF!!! Yes, off and blackness on the screen. Then when I want to exercise my control I just turn it back ON!! Yesterday was a real frustrating thing for me and really made me lose it, so I resolve not to let that happen again and I will always understand that I am in control not the multi-billion computer companies that perpetuate their industry by making everything obsolete every six months so you have to go out and buy something new. I am so glad that Bill Gates can give so much to charity and that he gets a big write off since he is now down to his last $45 billion. Poor guy, maybe I need to send him a vienna sausage to munch on while he counts his cash. So, in the future I resolve to be more careful in saving my material and not lose my cool in the process.

Movie Reviews: “The Other Guys”, **, The most unlikely team of New York detectives would be Will Ferrell, and Mark Wahlberg, but they are teamed up for this movie. It is obviously a comedy, of sorts, and puts them together to fight crime and their own in abilities to be hero cops. Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson have almost cameo roles as the “hero” cops. None of this makes much sense and is 60% entertaining. Don’t spend top fee on it, but enjoy the matinee price or DVD. Rated PG-13 for crude and sexual content, language, violence and some drug material.

“Dinner for Schmucks”, ***, This is a funny movie and a good story line staring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd. While Rudd plays a role of a corporate suit trying to move up Steve Carell plays the role of a schmuck. The schmucks are actually people that the corporate suites invite to a dinner once a month, just so they can make fun of them. Carell’s character actually stuffs dead mice and dresses them up to fit certain characters he has met in life. So, he is invited to dinner and actually makes all the suites look much more stupid than the schmucks. A well done movie and enjoyable. Rated PG-13 for language, some sexual references, and intense accident scene and some sensuality.

“Inception”, ***, A well done movie but not the five star the local critic gave it. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character deals in the deep thoughts and actions of the subconscious mind and its’ influence over our dreams. The plot is to manipulate the subconscious mind of an executive who is going to replace his father when he dies(is now on his death bed). This movie is deep and confusing at times, since he goes back and forth from reality to dreams. Will probably be nominated during the annual Oscar awards. Rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action throughout.

“Salt”, ****, This is a great suspense, action movie starring always nice to look at, Angelina Jolie as an agent for the CIA, or is she? Go see, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, plus one of the best chase scenes I have seen. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action.

“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”, ***, Nicolas Cage plays Balthazar Blake, a centuries old sorcerer in modern day Manhattan. He recruits a modern day dweeb as a reluctant protege to break a spell upon fellow sorcerer’s. Well done movie and entertaining. Rated PG for fantasy action violence, some mild rude humor and brief language.

Now off to Sturgis, SD on the Hog for a few days,
