Ho-hum, Must be Boredom, Movie Reviews(More bad than Good)

It has been so long since I posted something I may be a bit rusty; however, I think it may be some what like riding a bicycle.  You just never forget and I think I have had so much on my mind to write about I haven’t written anything.  Triathlon season has started in most of the southern states, so I got one in a few weeks ago.  Seems as though I have more time on my hands than I have had in 10-12 years so I have set new goals for new things and hope to get them in gear soon.  One of my bucket list type things is to do an RV adventure starting on the West Coast and traveling across the USA to the East Coast, with the goal to complete my goal of doing 400 triathlons before I turn 80.  This way of doing it would give me a look at some of the USA I have not seen, and will also give me variety in event choices.  Since I only have 28 to do it would be a fun way to compete.  With triathlon season starting that means that the first event for BSLT Triathlon Inc. is the Buffman and Squeaky triathlon weekend in May.  This is the warm up event for the big one in June, Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake.  Last week I received word from my publisher that my book “11 Points of Healthy Ageless Living” will be in my hands by May 20, 2016.  So, it will be fun to distribute those and hopefully get a book signing or two.  My focus now is to get the “11 points” into as many hands as possible, get the triathlons ready, and complete two more OSHA courses(enrolled today) to round out my offerings for the OSHA consulting business. Busy times!

Movie reviews:  (While it may seem like there are a lot of movies here, I just got on a movie blitz and saw a bunch!)

“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot(WTF)”, *,  This movie had some potential but lost it when Tina Frey tried her sense of humor in Afghanistan with a bunch of USA Army soldiers.  Sent there as a news correspondent she just didn’t fit or make sense.  Rated R for pervasive language, some sexual content, drug use and violent war.

“Hardcore Henry”, 0, One of the worst movies I have ever seen and is possibly a preview of what run of the mill movies will be like.  The Chinese have invested billions in the movie industry and now are the largest owners of theaters in the USA.  Along with this they are making movies in China and sending them to the USA.  Hardcore is one of those and I promise it was terrible!.  No point in talking about the so called story line or who Henry was, it was so weak it doesn’t deserve an explanation.  Rated. R for nonstop bloody brutal violence and mayhem, language throughout, sexual content/nudity and drug use. (My question, why not a XX rating?

“London Has Fallen”, ***, At last a movie worth talking about.  After the death of the British prime minister, the world’s most popular leaders gather in London to pay there respects.  Without warning terrorists unleash a devastating attack that leaves the city in chaos and ruins.  Secret Service agent Mike Banning(Gerald Butler) springs into action to bring USA President Benjamin Asher(Aaron Eckart) to safety.  A realistic rescue and lots of good clean action.  Rated R for strong violence and language throughout.

“10 Cloverfield Lane”, ***, John Goodman plays a Navy veteran whose family leaves him, likely when he invested in s self-sufficient bunker in which they can live for years should enemies go nuclear, joining him is neighbor John Gallagher Jr., who helped build the bunker and considers himself lucky to be inside it.  On the outside weird things are going on and Goodman’s character is correct on aliens, etc., but then it gets complicated when he has a collision in his pickup with a young woman.  She is rescued by Goodman and taken to the bunker for her protection his says but actually treats her like a prisoner.  The story is somewhat interesting and the acting is good, then the ending offers the opening scene to the sequel.  Rated PG-13 for thematic material including frightening sequences of threat with some violence and brief language.

“Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice”, **, This movie was too expensive based on the final results.  A stupid story line, reasonable acting but a conclusion that doesn’t make sense.  How does Batman kill Superman?? The man of steel goes down with the count and of course creates an opening for a sequel.  The story revolves around Superman becoming a bad guy for the community of Gotham city. So, Batman in all his innocence comes to the rescue.  Yes I know, another sequel!!  Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action throughout, and some sensuality.

“Deadpool”,  ***, Deadpool(a disfigured hero) played by Ryan Reynolds is far more anti-hero than superhero, breaking down the fourth wall while tracking down the villain responsible and hopefully finding a cure so he can return to his girlfriend.  Deadpool is Marvel’s first crude, irreverent and sexually obsessed crime-fighter in red Spandex, and he is loved all the more for it.  Rated R for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.

“Eddie the Eagle”,  ****, Finally a true feel good story.  This true story is about British athlete Michael “Eddie” Edwards who since childhood wanted to be an Olympic athlete.  With no real athletic ability in any type of team or individual sport he decided he wanted to be a ski jumper.  Against all odds and the blessing of the British Olympic team hierarchy he made the ski jump team and competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta.  Rated PG-13 for some suggestive material, partial nudity and smoking.

“Criminal”, ***, This is an international CIA story(not true) about an agent who is on assignment, but is killed by the bad guys with lots of intel on his brain.  So, the decision is made to use an experimental concept used to transfer the information from one brain to another so as to secure this critical information.  The guy picked to do the transfer on is played by Kevin Costner, a real bad and the kind of personality they felt was needed for this exchange.  He just so happens to be a violent and dangerous death-row inmate.  Since the bad guys are trying to blow up the world Stewart(Costner) must race against time to stop this from happening.  Lots of action and blood shed!  Rated R for strong violence and language throughout.

“Eye in The Sky”, **, This is worst movie I have even seen that stars Helen Mirren as a Colonel in the Armed Forces of Britain.  The story revolves around a secret mission, headed up by the Mirren character(Colonel), to target terrorists in Nairobi, Kenya.  While the movie was well done, the story was weak and depressing.  The accidental killing of a 9 year old village girl was not a good thing.  Rated R for the some violent images and language.

EA, SH.....:(!!
