Feathers, Movie Reviews

While it seems like many moons have come and gone since I last posted on fasttwitchmind I can truthfully confess that it was not writers’ block.  What it boils down to was just a case of too much on the burner and something had to suffer.  My dad use to ask me “If you had all the feathers you could carry, could you carry one more?”  Of course being young and near stupid, I would have trouble answering that because I just couldn’t get it in my head that I could not carry one more feather.  Then I finally gave it some deep thought, well as much deep thought as a 16 year old can muster, and realized that if I listened to the question and answered it truthfully then I would have to declare, NO, I cannot carry one more feather.  This would have made him proud that I finally got it and if I loaded my plate of things I must do without the thought of there are only 168 hours in each week and 24/7 is never going to be 30/8.  So, my confession to  not writing is not procrastination but simply no time left at the end of the day.  Since these writings are simply my thoughts for the day or wanting to make some kind of useful or useless point about life, the fact is no one is sitting on the edge of their chair wondering when I am going to post again, with very little care on what the subject might be.  So, my bottom line here is that when my boat gets loaded it is time to reevaluate how I am using my time or if I am misusing it.  I have always used the method of putting everything down in an order of when and how something must be done, and following this list to the best of my ability.  Now after writing this blog it has provided a motivation to get back on the organizational track of listing priorities and sticking to it.  Will report next time on how this has worked!

Movie Reviews:

“A Walk in the Woods”,  ***, This is a true story about a retired, bored travel writer played by Robert Redford(78), and directly the opposite long time friend played by Nick Nolte(74) that involves these two old men taking on the challenge of hiking the Appalachian Trail, as a team.  It is considered more light comedy than really serious.  While it was a good movie and harmless I thought it could have been more in depth with these two actors.  Rated R for language and some sexual references.

“Black Mass”, ***,  Another true story about one of the most dangerous gangsters in U.S. history, James “Whitey” Bulger, played by Johnny Deep. The setting is in Boston during the 1970’s and involved all the many things that gangsters do to fill up their day, i.e. murder, steal, sell drugs, sell prostitutes, etc.  When they get bored they drive around town till their see some one they don’t like, then they kill them.  Beware, it is brutal and Depp is fantastic!  Rated R for brutal violence, language throughout, some sexual references and brief drug use(snort).

“Mission Impossible-Rogue Nation”, ***,  Still on the same mission of destroying the Syndicate the Mission Impossible force, headed by Ethan Hunt(Tom Cruise), is blindsided by their own powers to be, the CIA.  So, not only do they fight the bad guys they also fight the good guys who are jealous of their past successes and they want them gone.  This is very action packed and vintage Tom Cruise!  Rated PG-13 for sequences of action and violence, and brief partial nudity.

“Ricki and The Flash”, ***,  A real drama with the story of Ricky Rendazzo(played by Meryl Streep), a one time wife and mother of three children whose life became a roller coaster ride when she left her family to follow her dreams of singing in a rock ‘n’ roll band.  Rick Springfield plays lead guitar in Ricki’s band and also is involved with her as her boy friend.  The real drama begins when her ex-husband and wife invite her to their home to help straighten out their mixed up young adult daughter.  So, there is plenty of family drama and very good music in this film.  Rated PG-13 for thematic material, brief drug content, sexuality and language.

“Southpaw”, ****,  A Rocky type movie where the world champion, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, loses his wife through an accidental shooting, then his daughter because he couldn’t take care of her, and then his World Champion belt.  So, the story gets real good when he hits rock bottom and he fights(literally) back for the title and regaining custody of his daughter.  A very good fight movie, so beware!  Rated R for language throughout and some violence(understatement).

EA, SH.........:)!
